When I was growing up we went to my grandma’s house almost every weekend and when I was old enough to start drinking tea the first kind I really remember having was this spice tea that my grandma made. I don’t know if she invented the recipe or not but to this day I can’t drink it without memories of sitting in her kitchen mixing it “to taste” (I always put an extra scoop in mine to make it extra sweet) from her well-used little Tupperware bin with the handwritten label.
This orange and spice tea mix recipe features just 5 ingredients, and they’re all dry and store well in a closed container for mixing on demand — whenever the mood strikes!
Also Fun Fact: NASA used Tang in early manned space flights!
Grandma's Recipe: Orange & Spice Sweet Tea
A quick and easy mix for an instant hot drink of sweet orange, cinnamon, and clove.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Orange Tang
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup instant tea (regular or decaf)
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
Instructions
Mix all ingredients together
Mix in hot water to taste (3 tsp per 6-8oz)
Store remaining mix in cool, dry place with a tight-fitting lid
I should make a new recipe card, as this one has definitely been through some stuff, but this is my Grandma’s handwriting so it stays.
I think I need to try this!! I love orange spice stuff!
I remember this drink well, always enjoyed the mix of spices. And I love the memories that come with it, like the tupperware bin. Thanks for sharing.
Is it 4 cups orange tang to 1 cup sugar? That’s what it looks like on your card. Either way, Very excited to try this out. I love tea.
It is so good! And it’s definitely 1 cup Tang to 1 cup sugar. That recipe card has been through some stuff but that’s a “1” for sure by the Tang. :)
Sounds interesting. Can’t wait to try it!
Love this recipe, I’ve been looking for a good tea one! And I love your grandmothers recipe card!! So charming!
I have recipe cards from my mom and grandma. I still use them! I also remember my Grandma having this tea. I think I’ll have to make it!
I love Orange and Spice, plus it’s nice to have something to remember loved ones by. I myself have so many memories with my grandmother, and she was in my life for a very long time ( passed away at 100 ). It’s nice to know that others are remembering the family in today’s fast pasted world.
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful recipe! I love tea, and orange and cinnamon, this is a must try! Your story of your Grandma warmed my heart :)
I’ve just recently started loving tea and this sounds delicious! Going to pin it for later :)
This sounds great; definitely will be trying it. I love orange spice tea. Thank you for sharing. Great photo, too!
I can’t believe you have resurrected Tang. We lived on the stuff on family road trips. It was just so much fun to drink!
This cute recipe brought back memories of cooking at my Great Grandmothers house. I love it!! and the recipe card.
I do recall drinking something like this as a kid, and enjoying it. As an adult, I wonder if there is a healthier version that would give the same pleasure.
Wonderful! We still make this to this day and it is always so satisfying! ❤️
I would give anything to have the old recipes! Love this – will have to give it a try.
Awesome job with this post. Too often I’m on Pinterest and people write novels before they post their recipes. You kept it short and sweet, enough that I wanted to read and found the recipe in seconds.
Reminds me of wassail for Christmas :) We just moved from the rural Midwest!
It’s a total Christmas drink for us too!
