I’m a busy mom with two littles at home (4 yr old and 1 yr old) which means I desperately need to feel beautiful but don’t have a lot of time to spend making it happen. Shopping and trying out new products is especially challenging. As a result I LOVE online shopping and have become a huge fan of subscription boxes.
Enter GlossyBox, a monthly beauty subscription box that promises 5 deluxe or full sized beauty and makeup products each month. They are a surprise, meaning you don’t get to choose what you get. This can be good or bad — I’ve received both amazing skin care products I had never heard of before and horrible shades of lipstick I hope never to hear of again. In order to have fun with a box like this you have to be A) interested in trying new products and B) up for surprises that may or may not work out. I am both so this is right up my alley!
The goodies come in a branded box, this month it’s the usual glossy pink but occasionally it’s something else (for an example see this one).
Also it’s worth noting that there is a basic beauty profile to fill out, but the actual customization of the boxes is limited. You can also rate and review the products you receive in order to better customize future boxes, although I have been doing this awhile and am not sure how much impact it has (I still occasionally get a dark lipstick, for example). Reviewing products also earns you credit which you can use to get discounts on purchases and even free boxes (if you rate and review everything you receive I think it works out to a little over 1 free box per year).
And now for what I got this month (June, 2018):
- Absolute New York Icon Mini Eye Shadow Palette in Gold Glitz
- Temple Spa Repose Aromatherapy Resting Cream
- Bellapierre Cosmetics Banana Setting Powder in Original
- Gilchrist & Soames Body Lotion in English Garden
- Karl Lagerfeld + ModelCo Lip Pencil in Rosewood
- Emite Make Up Professional Eye Lash Curler in Rose Gold
Not a standout month for me, but only because I don’t use much eyeshadow and never use lip liners or eye lash curlers. BUT, I can always find someone to gift those to and I’m excited about the English Garden body lotion (smells amazing), the banana setting powder sounds fun to try (it color-corrects redness), and the resting cream is a relaxing night cream (can’t have too much of that!).
Summary: I’m a big Glossybox fan and find a lot of value in trying new products as well as the fun of the surprise factor. I don’t always use everything every month, but I’m cool with that. The retail value of this month’s box is a whopping $106, which is a great value considering the regular monthly subscription cost is $21 per month (or as low as $17.50 if you commit for a year term). And you can click any of the links in this post (or this one!) to get an extra 20% of your order.
Cheers!
