Glossybox review October 2017

I have a 3 year old and a 3 month old, which means I need an easy beauty routine that doesn’t require a lot of time spent finding new products to try. It also means I LOVE online shopping and happy surprises that show up conveniently in my mailbox.

Enter GlossyBox, a monthly beauty subscription box that promises 5 deluxe or full sized beauty and makeup products each month. They are a surprise, meaning you don’t get to choose what you get. This can be good or bad — I’ve received both amazing skin care products I had never heard of before and horrible shades of lipstick I hope never to hear of again. In order to have fun with a box like this you have to be A) interested in trying new products and B) up for surprises that may or may not work out. I am both so this is right up my alley!

Glossybox beauty subscription unboxing October 2017The goodies come in a branded box, this is the usual glossy pink but occasionally it’s something else (see this one).

Also it’s worth noting that there is a basic beauty profile to fill out, but the actual customization of the boxes is limited. You can also rate and review the products you receive in order to better customize future boxes, although I have been doing this awhile and am not sure how much impact it has (I still occasionally get a dark lipstick, for example). Reviewing products also earns you “Glossydots,” which you can redeem for discounts on purchases and even free boxes (if you rate and review everything you receive I think it works out to a little over 1 free box per year).

And now for the goodies!

  1. Clove + Hallow lip glaze
  2. Lue by Jean Seo Erase cleansing powder
  3. Rituals Cosmetics shower foam
  4. Vasanti Cosmetics eyeshadow brush
  5. Oiudad featherlite climate control styling cream

I’ve been getting this box for 2 years and I think this is the first time I received all full sized items! The most fun thing this month is the cleansing powder — it’s very different than anything I’ve tried before (starts dry, add water, make a paste). Most practical/usable thing this month: the shower foam. It smells dreamy and shower wash is something I use all the time.

Summary: I’m a big Glossybox fan and find a lot of value in trying new products as well as the fun of the surprise factor. I don’t always use everything every month, but I’m cool with that. The retail value of this month’s box is $69+ and the regular monthly subscription cost is $21/mo (or as low as $17.50/mo if you sign up for a longer term). Cheers,

Rigel
