I have a 3 year old and a 3 month old, which means I need an easy beauty routine that doesn’t require a lot of time spent finding new products to try. It also means I LOVE online shopping and happy surprises that show up conveniently in my mailbox.
Enter GlossyBox, a monthly beauty subscription box that promises 5 deluxe or full sized beauty and makeup products each month. They are a surprise, meaning you don’t get to choose what you get. This can be good or bad — I’ve received both amazing skin care products I had never heard of before and horrible shades of lipstick I hope never to hear of again. In order to have fun with a box like this you have to be A) interested in trying new products and B) up for surprises that may or may not work out. I am both so this is right up my alley!
The goodies come in a branded box, this is the usual glossy pink but occasionally it’s something else (see this one).
Also it’s worth noting that there is a basic beauty profile to fill out, but the actual customization of the boxes is limited. You can also rate and review the products you receive in order to better customize future boxes, although I have been doing this awhile and am not sure how much impact it has (I still occasionally get a dark lipstick, for example). Reviewing products also earns you “Glossydots,” which you can redeem for discounts on purchases and even free boxes (if you rate and review everything you receive I think it works out to a little over 1 free box per year).
And now for the goodies!
- Clove + Hallow lip glaze
- Lue by Jean Seo Erase cleansing powder
- Rituals Cosmetics shower foam
- Vasanti Cosmetics eyeshadow brush
- Oiudad featherlite climate control styling cream
I’ve been getting this box for 2 years and I think this is the first time I received all full sized items! The most fun thing this month is the cleansing powder — it’s very different than anything I’ve tried before (starts dry, add water, make a paste). Most practical/usable thing this month: the shower foam. It smells dreamy and shower wash is something I use all the time.
Summary: I’m a big Glossybox fan and find a lot of value in trying new products as well as the fun of the surprise factor. I don’t always use everything every month, but I’m cool with that. The retail value of this month’s box is $69+ and the regular monthly subscription cost is $21/mo (or as low as $17.50/mo if you sign up for a longer term). Interesting box. I have a make up obsessed girl and this would be fun to do with her!!
I have a makeup obsessed niece! I pass everything I don’t want/won’t use to her and she has fun with it. :)
Glossybox is a great one! The full size product deal is so good.
I know! It was a fun surprise this month to see them all full sized.
I heard never heard of this box, but so glad you introduced it to me. It looks so fun and has amazing products! Thanks for sharing :)
This is a great concept b2it makes me wonder if I can get makeup according to my skin color. Not everything looks good on darker skin…
I think you’d be in the same boat as anyone in terms of hit and miss colors. They don’t send foundation or concealer generally, just lip and eye products and those in a wide variety of light and dark, warm and cool colors. Not everything is a good shade for me but it’s still fun to get a feel for the texture, staying power, etc. And I’m mostly in it for the skin care anyhow. :)
I keep meaning to subscribe to a beauty box as a little treat for myself. It’s great you got full sized products too!
I’m in the same boat as you with a 13 month old and need an easy everyday makeup and skincare routine! That’s awesome that you got all full size items and they all look so great!
